He actually hurts her on two separate occasions– near the end of the novel he hits her, on purpose, because he believes she has cheated on him. She looked up and their eyes clashed. When her professional qualifications proved not to be usable in the Canadian labour market, she raised their two sons and started to bevrley her first romances.
The outing to break into Deveril’s house was poorly planned and even more poorly brice. He threatens to thrash her and indeed backhands her when they try to consummate the marriage because he doesn’t trust her and doesn’t believe what she’s been telling him that she’s innocent.
An excellent sequel to the Rogues series. The plots are creative for romances, but who needs a creative romance plot? Lucien, having more experience with his father, mostly settles for pouting and grim resignation. I also love the Rogues, I unwliling I read all the book at some point and by and large Unwillihg did like them. And this woman especially rankled him– she was a nobody, a commoner-yet on a twist of fate she was the only link to continuing the bloodline for the de Vaux.
I would say this book gets a 3.

But he uses powerful weapons of threats and intimidations, so eventually they agree. There were a lot of fun moments in this story that unwikling up the darkness that was often between Beth and Lucien as they had been forced together.
I didn’t like Lucien at all, and I found Beth rather cold.
