I kept reading, in hope that it would get better, but it didn’t. Critical reaction to Dracula the Un-dead has been mixed. Dracula Undead suffers from too many cooks in the kitchen with no idea where to go.
Winnipeg Free Press reviewer Kenneth MacKendrick called it “tempting enough to read and bad enough to be controversial, striking a balance between sensationalism and mediocrity”. More striking than this, however, is the obvious influence of film and television. Another apologist version of Dracula misunderstood Wallachian Christian hero – yaaaawn. Dacre is married to Jenne Stoker and is the father of two children. Could it be that Dracula somehow survived their attack and is seeking revenge? Realizing that Van Helsing’s earlier rants about the supernatural were real after all, Cotford attempts to save Mina by getting her on one of London’s underground trains.

Serving as a sequel to the classic original, Dacre Stoker works with renowned Dracula historian Ian Holt to bring this continuation of the story to life in fine form. Besides for characters from the original book, Bram Stoker was a character in the book plus lots of the real people that he associated with as well as many characters with the names of actors who have played Dracula.
Really, I don’t see a high rating for this Update. For example, there was a character in the book named Langella.

The real Dracula novel provided sexual tension, fear and conflict with manipulation of mood, scene and character development, while this book almost wants to ask you after each page “are you scared or aroused yet? Unknown to him, boxes labelled as property of Vladimir Basarab are also loaded undfad board; the ocean liner is later revealed to be the RMS Titanic.
Bathory outmaneuvers Basarab and smashes an oil lantern at his feet, catching him and the theater on fire. It does not help the story and lowers it to the level of a WB show with silly vampire teens.
I realize that it’s important to the continuation of the story to further develop these characters, but did they have to turn every single person into a sad shell of their original selves? I would have rather him have a heart attack. The new book is set in London ina quarter of a century after the Count apparently “crumbled into dust”. Jack SewardQuincey Harker.
Not only that but now vampires turn to ash in the sunlight. I will not even comment on the Titanic ending for Quincey. Jack the Ripper Ripper Duke Nukem: Coppola’s movie was the first time I saw that and I did a double-take.
Meanwhile, an unknowing Quincey Harker, the grown son of Jonathan and Mina, leaves law school for the London stage, only to stumble upon the troubled production of “Dracula,” directed and produced by Bram Stoker himself. How did Dracula come back? When I drxcula the last page and closed the book I had mixed emotions.
